As part of our culture, we are committed to nurturing young talent, both for now and the longer term.
Facing the challenges of a rapidly-moving industry, a shortage of engineering skills and rising overheads and costs, we need people who can help us from the ground up.
That means committing to young people and their futures, including apprentices and degree-qualified applicants who have something to bring.
With this step-change in how we are solving our own skills shortage comes a commitment in time and effort. We need to make sure there is a genuine role for them, provide senior support and guidance and identify the roles we want them to play as they become more qualified and skilled.
Currently, we have three apprentices who are all enrolled on the Manufacturing Engineering Degree Apprenticeship at Blackpool and the Fylde College.
They are being shaped in our way of doing things and at the end of their five-year course they will be an asset to our business, with the skills and capability to help take us forward.
They have already become part of the team at Airframe Designs and are contributing to making us leaders in the production of highly complex components to some of the largest aviation, defence and space organisations worldwide.
They bring open, fresh questions sometimes on points we hadn’t thought of ourselves. They are hungry for information and knowledge. This is the way forward for us as we continually build our team and expertise in these niche sectors of industry.
Supporting the apprentices are three veterans of the aerospace engineering industry who have worked at the very highest level. Design consultant Dean Kelly, senior concept design engineer Andrew White and senior design engineer Mark Dugdale all formerly worked on prestigious projects for BAE Systems.
Indeed, the teams working on our specialist components span an age range of five decades with skills in design, analysis, certification and manufacturing.
We’re proud of our culture and our young people and it is an exciting time to see them and our business grow together. It’s all about teamwork.
