You will be based in our state-of-the-art office on the Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone, right next to the airport taxi way.
At AFD we have a diverse range of customers from civil to military. You’ll get the chance to work on a wide range of these projects and be exposed to multiple disciplines early on including Computer Aided Design, Finite Element Analysis, Additive Manufacturing and 3D Scanning. To find out more about the kind of work we do, visit our case studies page here.
We offer a five year development programme. By the end of this, you will have accumulated a significant amount of experience, knowledge and skill. There will be opportunities to progress into senior engineering positions as well as potentially management positions. The company is growing and as the company grows the opportunities for progression will increase.
At Airframe Designs you will be working as part of a small team, managed by an experienced engineering manager. You will be put through a structured training programme and given all the necessary tools to excel. You will have regular contact with your manager and we operate an open door policy here where you can ask as many questions as you like.
During your five year development programme, you will undertake a number of high quality training packages to ensure you have the skill and the know-how to be contributing towards live AFD projects.
Some examples of the training we deliver are:
- CATIA V5
- Siemens NX
- MSC Apex/Patran/Nastran
- Stress and Fatigue & Damage Tolerance course delivered by an external industry expert
- Airworthiness and Certification (both in-house and external)

General
We are situated on the Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone, in a modern purpose built office. We have air conditioning, modern equipment, a modern, comfortable working environment, with access to local amenities such as Morrisons, Greggs, Nandos, McDonalds only a few minutes walk away. Also, for any aeroplane buffs, the main taxi way to Blackpool Airport runway runs right past the office.
Unless otherwise set out in your employment contract, you are entitled to 28 days’ paid holiday in each holiday year, or the pro rata equivalent if you work part time. This includes the usual public holidays in England and Wales or days in lieu where we require staff to work on a public holiday. Holiday allowance increases in line with your length of employment.
This would be preferred but as long as you would be willing to work towards this if required, this shouldn’t be a barrier.
As part of your onboarding process you will be required to undergo a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.
Due to the nature of the work we do it is also highly likely that you will need to be UK MOD SC cleared. Don’t worry; we will help you through this process when required.
Due to the nature of some of the projects that we work on we require all staff to have a full British passport.
At the moment this is not something that Airframe Designs is offering.
We have recently achieved ISO 14001 certification, which is all about having an efficient Environmental Management System in place. We have installed 80 solar panels plus battery storage on our building to significantly reduce our carbon footprint as we work towards net zero emissions. We are always on the look out for energy saving ideas and welcome any staff suggestions.
At Airframe Designs, we have close links with local universities and colleges, and often attend careers fairs, or engineering events to both promote the business and to attract engineering talent.
