Our Programmes

The Airframe Designs Graduate Development Programme offers a dynamic, forward-thinking, and nurturing learning experience that propels you to quickly integrate into the team and make meaningful contributions to live projects.

You will join the team as a Design, Stress, or Additive Manufacturing engineer, with the opportunity to gain exposure to other engineering disciplines. Our comprehensive and industry-recognized training package will provide the support needed to expand your skills across various areas of expertise.

Job Description

Your day to day activities will include but are not limited to:

  • Performing structural analysis using both hand calculations and finite element modelling techniques.
  • Compiling structural test plans / reports and witnessing tests.
  • Visiting customers and attending airframe surveys.
  • Design of mechanical components and assemblies using CAD for fixed wing aircraft and rotorcraft (civil and military).
  • Performing design investigations and trade studies.
  • Attending customer design reviews both virtually and on-site.
  • Design optimisation for additive manufacturing.
  • 3D scanning of full aircraft and aircraft components both on our premises and on customer premises.

Skills & Knowledge

  • The ability to perform hand calculations based on first principles of stress and strain.
  • Knowledge of metallic and non-metallic material properties and failure modes.
  • The ability to understand and check engineering drawings.
  • Keeping abreast of current and future technologies.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and confidently both within the business and externally with customers.
  • The ability to integrate into multiple teams and projects and become familiar with different company procedures.
  • The ability to work independently to provide creative solutions to problems.
  • The ability to work efficiently, accurately, and consistently to a high standard.
  • Competence with basic engineering tool-sets: MS Office, CAD, FEA

The Airframe Designs Degree Apprenticeship Programme offers an exceptional opportunity to earn an engineering degree while gaining invaluable experience, acquiring essential skills, and accessing world-class training on state-of-the-art equipment.

Job Description
The primary role of the apprentice engineer is to learn and develop to become a qualified engineer in one of the following disciplines: Design, Stress or Additive Manufacturing. Other duties include:

  • Attending a college or university, on a day-release basis, to complete a relevant engineering degree.
  • Completing a 3-month period (or longer) of practical training in basic work-shop skills.
  • Learning and developing a set of engineering skills through on-the-job training, mentoring, and via training courses.
  • Learning to use all software and hardware (including manufacturing equipment) deployed across the business.
  • Providing engineering support to live projects across the business.

Skills & Knowledge

  • The ability to perform basic hand calculations.
  • The ability to design mechanical structure and create the necessary data sets in a CAD environment.
  • A basic knowledge of materials and failure modes.
  • Keeping abreast of current and future technologies.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and confidently both within the business and externally with customers.
  • The ability to integrate into multiple teams and projects and become familiar with different company procedures.
  • The ability to work independently to provide creative solutions to problems.
  • The ability to work efficiently and accurately to a ‘required’ and consistent standard.
  • Competence with engineering & manufacturing tool-sets.
